Carolina
June 3 - July 8, 2005

Forum Gallery presents Carolina, an exhibition of sixteen abstract landscape paintings by SVA alumnus (MFA 1989 Fine Arts) Brian Rutenberg. He executes paintings that embrace spirituality, love of color, and a palpable affinity for paint and canvas. Two years ago, Rutenberg began to weave together three inspirations in his work: the light and geography of coastal South Carolina, his interest in Irish Celtic Art and the ideas of the late Canadian pianist, Glenn Gould. These seemingly disparate categories are united by one idea, the notion of ecstasy. Each is capable of creating a gradual, momentary heightened state of awareness and purely non-verbal communication on a one-to-one basis.
